Trump Suggests End to Gaza War Within Weeks
United States President Donald Trump suggested on Monday that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Gaza should conclude within the next two to three weeks. He expressed concern over the ongoing violence, including civilian deaths, the killing of journalists and medics, and famine induced by the Israeli blockade. Trump acknowledged the severity of the situation, stating, “It’s got to get over with because between the hunger and all of the other problems – worse than hunger, death, pure death – people [are] being killed.” His past promises regarding an end to the conflict have not resulted in a ceasefire or increased humanitarian aid.
The Trump administration has provided billions of dollars in weapons to Israel and opposed international efforts toward Palestinian statehood. While expressing unhappiness over the Israeli attack on Nasser Hospital in Gaza that killed 21 Palestinians, including five journalists, Trump focused his comments on securing the release of Israeli captives. In February, he had previously suggested removing all Palestinians from Gaza.
Impact Statement: Trump's comments, while expressing concern, lack concrete action and are unlikely to immediately resolve the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
