Google to fully deprecate goo.gl shortened links on August 25th, 2025
Google will end support for its goo.gl URL shortener on August 25th, 2025. Links using the "https://goo.gl/*" format will return a 404 error after this date. Google shut down the service in 2019 due to changes in how people access online content, but shortened links continued to function until now. The company announced the deprecation last year (July 2024), noting that over 99% of goo.gl links showed no activity in the preceding month. A warning message has been displayed on these links since then.
Users are advised to switch to alternative URL shortening services.
Impact Statement: Websites and individuals using goo.gl shortened links need to update their URLs to avoid broken links after August 25th, 2025.
