The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) announced the official launch of Qi2 25W wireless charging, a significant speed increase from the previous 15W limit. Several hundred devices are expected to be certified for the faster charging standard. The WPC confirmed that iPhones will support Qi2 25W, though specific models were not disclosed. Furthermore, major Android smartphones will adopt the standard for the first time, though the WPC did not specify which manufacturers or models. Currently, only the HMD Skyline fully supports Qi2; some Samsung flagships are "Qi2 Ready," supporting 15W but requiring a magnetic case for full functionality.

WPC chair Fady Mishriki stated that the number of devices in the certification queue is unprecedented. The new standard, based in part on Apple's MagSafe technology, offers nearly 70% more power than the original Qi2.

Impact Statement: The wider adoption of Qi2 25W wireless charging across both iOS and Android devices will likely increase consumer demand for wireless charging accessories and influence smartphone design.
