Ken Pillonel, known for his 2021 DIY USB-C iPhone mod, has launched a commercially available iPhone case that replaces the Lightning port with USB-C. The case, available at obsoless.com for $45-$55, supports MagSafe charging, data transfers, CarPlay, and improved 9V fast charging regardless of cable orientation—unlike his previous project. While some Lightning and USB-C features may not be fully supported due to Apple's restrictions on adapters, Pillonel guarantees fast charging, data transfers, and CarPlay functionality.

The case also includes additional features such as an extra SIM card slot and a lanyard attachment. Initially available in dark gray, more color options are promised for September. Pillonel previously modified other Lightning products, including AirPods, to include USB-C ports, and aims to combat planned obsolescence by offering users a solution to avoid replacing their older iPhones.

Impact Statement: Pillonel's commercial case provides a workaround for Apple's Lightning port, potentially extending the lifespan of older iPhones and offering consumers more charging and data transfer options.
