Penny Mordaunt, former UK cabinet minister and MP, revealed she was a victim of AI-generated deepfake pornography, describing the experience as "deliberately humiliating and violent." She made the statement during a BBC Newsnight interview about age verification on pornography websites. Mordaunt stated that several other parliamentarians were also targeted. This follows a Channel 4 documentary last year which exposed the deepfake porn targeting her, Dame Priti Patel, Angela Rayner, and others, including journalist Cathy Newman.

Mordaunt expressed concern about the real-world consequences of deepfakes, highlighting the impact on victims and children. She voiced support for Australia's ban on social media for under-16s and called for the UK government to take a stronger stance against the issue, particularly with social media companies like X (formerly Twitter). Mordaunt previously held senior government positions, including Defence Secretary, and competed in the 2022 Conservative leadership election.

The UK government has recently introduced plans to criminalize the creation and distribution of sexually explicit deepfakes. Mordaunt's comments underscore the ongoing challenges in combating online abuse and protecting individuals, especially children, from harmful content.
